Memoirs of Duke de Richelieu

"Limited to one thousand sets." · Plates accompanied by guard sheets with descriptive letterpress · Half-title: Memoirs of Marshal Duke de Richelieu, by M. F. Barrière · A translation of Barrière's edition of the "Mémoires du marèchal duc de Richelieu" (first issued in 1858). This work, though less complete than the edition of the "Mémoires", published in 9 vols. by J.L. Soulavie in 1790, is less spurious, an attempt having been made to select the true from the false. cf. Quérard's Les supercheries littéraires devollées, v. 3, col. 426 · "Extract from the Memoirs of Madame the Countess de Genlis": v. 3, p. [187]-389
