Paradigm: Extinction is Forever

Paradigm is set in 2027, against the backdrop of the converging poly cris i s — authoritarianism, wealth concentration, economic and environmental de cay , and geopolitical instability — that ha s pushed civilization to the brink of collapse . When a n RSV outbreak turns deadly from a mutating virus , beginning to kill 95% of all newborns worldwide and threatening humanity with extinction, a team of investigators is sent to the remote forests of northern Canada following rumors that some children there may be immune. What they discover is a complex plant-fungi association with powerful antiviral properties — the only known hope for human survival. But it is being destroyed by a warming climate. At its core , Paradigm is a story about class struggle and the fight for ecosociali sm — a battle between the wealthy and powerful few committed to maintaining the status quo, and the rest of humanity fighting for survival and a more just world. Indigenous wisdom and ecological knowledge play a central role in the narrative, as does the broader argument that humanity cannot save itself without fundamentally changing its relationship to the natural world.
