Mary Hill Fulstone was a native of Nevada born in 1892 and was the longest-practicing physician in the state. She talks of her life from her childhood years in Eureka and Carson City to the completion of her studies to be a physician at the University of California Medical School in Berkeley in 1917. Having married Fred Fulstone of Smith Valley, she moved there to open her practice. She remained in Smith Valley for her entire career, helping with the ranch, rearing a family, and becoming locally and nationally famous for her feats. Dr. Mary also gained the respect of colleagues and other citizens all over Nevada, and was recognized as a pioneer in her profession. This oral history contains Dr. Fulstone's recollections of life in Eureka and Carson City, her work at the University of California, her broad range of public service, memories of other health professionals, and descriptions of more than fifty years of doctoring the citizens of western Nevada.
