Ireland, Civil Registration District border map and County border map, overlaid

Ireland genealogy tool. This map of The Republic of Ireland and of Northern Ireland shows both Civil Registration District borders, and County borders. The counties are in different colors, and are easy to differentiate. This is very useful for genealogists – professional or amateur – who are trying to find old birth, marriage or death records from Ireland or Northern Ireland. If you know about where in an County a person was born, married, or died, on some websites, such as https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ after determining in which registration district your person lived, you can narrow your search area to a tiny fraction of the entire island. Even if all you know of a person's life history is that they lived in a specific county in Ireland, most counties have just four to ten registration districts. So you can search them one at a time. While tedious, that's better than doing a general search of Ireland.
