Taipan: A Historical Adventure For The Apple Computer (Apple II Edition)

This programming handbook for creating computer simulations is your adventurous travel guide to the historical past. Embark on a wondrous journey into the turbulent era of 19th-century Asia while you learn to program a sophisticated, interactive computer adventure. Your mission is to gain wealth as you trade in silk, tea, arms, and rice. You will encounter pirates, politicians, and profiteers like Elder Brother Wu, the Iron Lotus Triad moneylender, and Li Yuen, the "mariner" (although some consider him a buccaneer), as you travel through exotic ports-of-call. Taipan: A Historical Adventure for the Apple Computer provides you with step-by-step instructions for creating a game in BASIC, in addition to increasing your knowledge of history and geography. Rich in fascinating descriptions of Asia and the China Trade of the 1800s, the text contains a complete, contextual computer game that simulates real events and enables you to interact with people in places of a bygone era. Lavishly illustrated with maps and artwork, each chapter presents an aspect of China trade history, geography, or folklore of the times, and shows you how to simulate that aspect as part of a computer game program.
